LISA KELLY
Hippocrates the father of modern medicine said “All disease begins in the Gut” so lets do something now to prevent it.
Hi guys I'm Lisa. I'm a 22 year old girl from New Jersey whose passions include eating, thinking, and talking about food.
I also find joy in blogging (DUH), photography, fitness -I am obsessed with spin, weights and yoga, beauty, wellness, reading and learning.
I discovered my passion for wellness and healthy food in 2013 when I got my dog Bella. I began educating myself about the commercial dog food I was feeding her and I was shocked to find out how awful the ingredients were. Fake, processed, chemicals. Everything that I didn't want my pup eating. That week I began making my own homemade dog food and I never looked back.
One day I woke up and thought wait, why don't I care this much about the food I'm eating? After reading labels I began to realize that I was actually harming my body by what I was putting inside of it.
I came up with the name "somewhat vegan" originally because when I first found my passion for health I went strictly vegan to cleanse my body. A vegan lifestyle was not for me but I do think it was a wonderful cleanse that my body for sure needed.
Of course I then experimented with different diets to see how my body reacted. Gluten free, pescetarian, vegetarian, paleo, you name it.. I've done it. Today I find myself to be BALANCED and that is what works best for me. Listen to your body, give it what it wants. You know what makes you feel good and what doesn't. Ingest the good and reject the bad my friends.
When purchasing foods that aren't raw I try to stick to ten ingredients or less. I try my best to avoid most oils other than avocado and coconut oil (always organic*). I also only use pink Himalayan salt when cooking. I do not buy cane sugar. I simply use dates, coconut sugar, maple syrup, or raw honey for sweeteners. Always avoid GMO's. I also do not believe in store bought nut milks. I always make my own cashew milk at home in my Vitamix. My kitchen is stocked with ALL organic produce, kombucha, wild caught fish, grass fed meat and yogurt, pasture raised eggs, sprouted grains, ghee, superfoods, organic chocolate, nut butters and more. Having a healthy clean eating kitchen makes life more enjoyable and puts my mind at ease whenever I do have the occasional weekend cheat when my fiance Sean wants to take me out to dinner because I know 95% of the time I am always consuming foods that are healing me, cleansing me and making my body thrive. Food is truly medicine and if we nourish our bodies with it every single day you will not only be healthy on the inside but be glowing and thriving on the outside.
Here + on my Instagram @balancedbylisa is where you can find what I consume on a daily basis + recreate your own versions at home by following my original recipes! I hope you enjoy my posts + get inspired to eat real, whole, organic foods every day.
Always remember to stay B A L A N C E D babes!
