when I was in high school a burger was one of my favorite foods to eat, especially after a LONG night. they were my favorite "cheat" meal. bacon cheeseburgers and blue cheese burgers were my go to. now I'm much more conscious of the meat I consume when I am out at a restaurant, I do not eat meat if it is not pasture raised, grass fed or organic. since I do love burgers so much I knew I had a create a recipe that was good for me so I could indulge more often without guilt! so I paired grass fed organic ground beef with my other favorite food - MUSHROOMS. and now I have the most perfect homemade burger recipe that I have been keeping all to myself for a while but I figured it's time to share it with the world.
INGREDIENTS:
(yields 6-8 burgers depending on the size you make them)
heat a pan or cast iron skillet and be sure to grease it with some ghee, coconut oil or avocado oil. add in onions and garlic until fragrant and onions have become somewhat translucent. next add mushrooms and saute until they are soft. remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes. in a large mixing bowl add ground beef, egg, and spices and mash together until well combined. now add in mushroom onion and garlic mixture. use the same pan that you sauteed the mushrooms in and place it back over a medium heat. take about 1/2-1 cup of ground beef mixture depending on how large you like your patties, roll into a ball with your hands then flatten into a burger shape. one you have all your burgers formed begin to cook in the hot pan. I cooked them for 5 minutes on each side until they were nice and charred on the outsides.
today I used sprouted Silver Hills bread instead of a bun, smeared some organic dijon and Kite Hill almond milk cream cheese on it, added some romaine, smashed sweet potatoes and sprouts. this burger combo is LIT, try it out my babes! xo
